Its so easy these days to just switch off the things that are unpleasant to hear or see. I am definitely one of those people who are guilty of unfollowing or ignoring something that makes me uncomfortable. However when my friend Victoria brought to me an opportunity to serve in my local area of an event, I knew nothing about, I didn't really react much.
She knew something I didn't.. This is an event that supports pedantic cancer... I know those 2 words made me uncomfortable. Being business-minded as I can be I wanted to know the ins and outs of how the event worked, what is required, whats the cost.. etc. I received messages and emails from one of the event leaders Jennifer and she expressed to me what the event means to them and how even as a vendor being there means to them. We dove right into the nitty-gritty how this event even started not just in Fremont, CA.. but in Livermore and San Francisco also.
Lucas and I are not parents yet but I can tell you when Jennifer explained that this all started with a mother's mission to bring awareness after her own child passed due to a quick moving cancer... my heart sank. There is no turning off the tv or shutting off the phone here. Turning away isn't an option. It takes one person - one light - to share and speak up.
